The "best Philippine team ever assembled" officially starts its preparations for the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Gilas Pilipinas will resume practices Monday at the Meralco Gym, with the main tasks at hand being to win against Kazakhstan and Iran.

The Philippines will host both countries starting Nov. 30 for window 5 of the Asian Qualifiers.

Both games, particularly the Iran rematch, are of extreme importance for Gilas as the national team looks to maintain a top-3 ranking in Group F to make the World Cup next year in China.

Gilas Pilipinas is currently in third place with a 5-3 record, one full game behind Iran for second place and one full game ahead of Japan.

The Akatsuki 5 are in fourth place with a 4-4 mark and are in the midst of a four-game winning streak.

Last week, head coach Yeng Guiao announced a new 20-man pool for the Asian Qualifiers and most of them should be present for the national team's first practice.

Exempted from training are players from Magnolia and Ginebra as both teams play Game 2 of their 2018 PBA Governors' Cup semifinals series on the same day.

However, Jayson Castro, Stanley Pringle, Alex Cabagnot, Matthew Wright, Marcio Lassiter, Gabe Norwood, Troy Rosario, Arwind Santos, June Mar Fajardo, Beau Belga, Christian Standhardinger, JP Erram, Ricci River, and Kai Sotto are expected to be present.

Aside from their evening sessions at the Meralco Gym, Gilas also has four practice games lined up against Jordan and Lebanon before taking the courth against Kazakhstan and Iran.
