Taguig defeated Parañaque, 80-69, over the weekend to keep its hopes alive of a quarterfinal berth in the National Basketball League (NBL) at the Ugnayang La Salle Gymnasium in Dasmariñas City.
Richmond Gilbero led the Taguig Generals with 19 points and 13 rebounds to improve their record to 4-5, tying Nueva Ecija for sixth place in the team standings.
The top two teams at the end of the elimination round will advance to the semifinals outright while the third to sixth-placed teams will play a knockout quarterfinal berth. Ties will be broken using winner-over-the-other rule or quotient.
Dasmariñas, meanwhile, edged Nueva Ecija, 81-76, to climb to fourth place with a 5-3 record.
The Dasmariñas Ballers are still in contention for the top two with the Laguna Pistons and CamSur Express tied at first place with a 6-2 card and the Bulacan Makabayan in a tie for third place with a 5-2 slate.
John Cantimbuhan had 28 points, while JP Rabe had a near triple-double when he finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and nine blocks for the Ballers in the league.
