Kai Sotto finally had the chance to run with Gilas Pilipinas Sunday against Lebanon and the Ateneo high school star is more than thrilled.

Sotto was in uniform for the national team's last tune-up game ahead of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers and was given the chance to see the court for limited minutes.

Kai started for Gilas in the second half and played for about six minutes.

He made the most of his limited action and even tried to dunk on Lebanon's Ater Majok. He missed but he was fould and Sotto made the two free throws before he was subbed out.

"Sayang, kasi yun na yung chance ko eh," Sotto said of his brave attempt to posterize the Lebanese powerhouse.

"Okay lang," he added.

As an official part of the 20-man pool for this upcoming FIBA window, Kai can be part of Gilas' final 12 for the very first time.

Sotto elated to have an opportunity and he's ready to earn his slot.

"Hindi sa mahirap pero kailangan mo talagang pagtrabahuhan. Iba yung mahirap sa yung kaya mo pero pagtatrabahuhan mo talaga," he said.

"Kapag nilagyan ko ng effort, nakaka-sabay naman ako kahit papaano. Masaya ako dahil kahit papaano nasa isip pa rin ako ni coach Yeng, nagpapa-salamat ako sa kanya na sinama niya ako sa pool," Sotto said.
