Dasmarinas and Laguna forced rubber matches in their respective semifinals series in the National Basketball League last Wednesday at the Baliuag Star Arena in Baliuag, Bulacan.
The Dasmariñas Ballers beat the top-ranked Bulacan Makabayan, 88-87, while the Laguna Pistons defeated the second-seed Parañaque Aces, 87-82, to force a do-or-die battle for a Finals berth on Saturday at the San Dionisio Gym in Parañaque.
John Gabion led the Ballers after finishing with 19 points and eight rebounds for the No. 5 Ballers, who snapped the Makabayan’s six-game winning streak to force a rubber match.
The Ballers led by as many as 17 points in the contest but staved off a late comeback by the home squad to preserve the win.
Shin Manacsa had 20 points, and Ralph Pantaleon had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the No. 3 Pistons in keeping their hopes alive in making it to the championship series.
