MANILA, Philippines --- Gilas Pilipinas is ready to turn a shock loss into a valuable lesson.

The Philippines suffered a monumental upset Friday against Kazakhstan in the Asian Qualifiers and the national team's quest to the 2019 FIBA World Cup took a major hit.

Still, Gilas is still in the running and is actually tied with Japan for third place with identical 5-4 records.

Gilas can basically nullify this loss to Kazakhstan Monday provided they beat Iran in another big game. The Iranians didn't get any additional ground after losing to Australia and their 6-3 record is only one full game better than that of the Filipinos.

Despite a disappointing result now, the Philippines has another chance and Gilas is ready to not waste this second opportunity.

"Maski matalo lalo na nasa homecourt tayo pero lesson learned yun," June Mar Fajardo said.

"Hindi kailangan i-down mga sarili natin dahil sa talong to, di natin pwedeng dalhin yung sama ng loob sa game sa Monday kasi mas lalong maa-apektuhan tayo. Kailangan lang matuto," he added.

Gilas is ready to move on from this defeat to Kazakhstan and despite the Philippines actually taking a beating at the hands of Iran in the previous window, the national team is confident they can bounce back.

"Buong tiwala ko sa team so kailangan pa nating gawin lahat para manalo," Fajardo said.

"Move on na pero di dapat kalimutan yung lesson [vs. Kazakhstan]," he added.
