MANILA, Philippines --- Gilas Pilipinas has a crucial match against Iran coming up but top point guard Jayson Castro is approaching it as just a normal outing.

As it stands, the Philippines is currently tied for third place with Japan with identical 5-4 records while Iran is at second with a 6-3 mark.

A win by the Philippines forces a tie for second place while a loss could push the national team to fourth and in danger of missing the World Cup altogether.

Still, Castro is maintaining a rather relaxed vibe on the eve of Gilas Pilipinas' biggest game in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

"Ayoko rin maging excited na excited ako na mawawala ako sa rhythm o mawala ka sa focus. Parang kagaya lang ng dati," he said.

"Same lang nung dati. One of the veterans na ako dito sa Gilas, very important game pero parang natural game lang," Castro added.

The Iran game marks Castro's return to Gilas Pilipinas after serving a three-game suspension from FIBA.

If there's one thing to get excited about for Castro, it's the fact that he gets to play for the Philippines again.

"Excited ako ulit makalaro para sa national team, makapag-provide ng leadership as one of the veterans," he said.

"Yung past naging lesson sakin yun," Castro added.

The Blur's presence certainly gives Gilas a boost especially after the national team just absorbed a shock upset at the hands of Kazakhstan Friday.

With the Iranians coming to town, it's imperative for the national team not to let its guard down and take advantage of this second golden opportunity.

"This time yung focus namin against Iran, after nung game sa Kazakhstan, sinabi ni coach Yeng na we still have a chance para maging number 2, as long as na matalo natin yung Iran," Castro said.

"Marami rin kaming lesson na nakuha sa Kazakhstan and sana ma-apply namin yung mga yun against Iran," he added.
