Makati remains red-hot now part the midway mark of the season
Makati and Valenzuela came away with contrasting wins last Tuesday in the 2018 Maharlika Pilipinas Datu Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
The Super Crunch extended their winning run to seven games after walloping Mandaluyong, 79-63.
Using its stifling defense right from the get-go, Makati forced its rival to commit 26 turnovers which resulted to 33 points as coach Cholo Villanueva’s troops notched their 13th win in 17 games to stay solid at fourth spot of the northern division.
The Super Crunch went down to business early, unloading 15 straight points for a 19-5 lead.
Meanwhile, Valenzuela fought back from 23 points down before pulling off a tough 76-74 victory over host team Rizal.
Ford Ruaya and Carlo de Chavez combined forces for the Classic, but it was Jaymar Gimpayan’s go-ahead putback in the last nine seconds that lifted the visiting squad’s win.
The win allowed Valenzuela to improve its win-loss record to 7-10, the same card being held by Pampanga. Both teams are now tied in eighth to ninth places.
Ruaya led the Classic with 16 points followed by De Chavez, who had 15, including a triple that shoved the Classic within three, 71-68.
