BF Int’l Village, Sto. Nino rule PLDT Home Fibr Metro Manila Inter-Village League

Exciting wins by BF International Village and Sto. Nino capped off the Philippines' biggest inter-village tournament presented by PLDT Home Fibr.
CAA BF International Village and Sto. Nino carved out thrilling victories in their respective divisions to reign supreme in the inaugural PLDT Home Fibr Metro Manila Inter-Village League recently at the Toby’s Arena in Pasig City.
Donmark Matillano delivered the crucial assist and free throw in the winding seconds as BF International Village escaped Village East, 80-78, to rule the Under-29 division while Sto. Nino downed Sunny Villas, 75-74, in a furious windup in the 30-and-over championship.
The champions in each division received P150,000 in cash and bragging rights for ruling the successful staging of the country’s biggest inter-village tournament presented by PLDT Home Fibr.
The tournament opened last August and was joined by a total of 30 teams in each bracket from subdivisions and villages within the metro.
The Under-29 division Most Valuable Player Matillano found Jonathan Sotomayor wide-open for a corner pocket three-pointer that gave BF Int’l Village a 79-78 lead after trailing by two with just 32.3 seconds remaining in the ballgame.
After a dry possession for Village East, Matillano was brought to the foul line and split his charities for a two-point BF International Village lead with just 10.5 ticks left on the clock. Jerick Datu tried to win it for Village East, but missed his potential game-winning outside shot as time expired.
Matillano flirted with a triple-double with 24 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks to lead BF International Village. Nash Andrade and Daryl Marinas finished with 20 and 16 markers, respectively.
Datu led Village East with 15 points, Kim Catolico had 14 while Dunray Geraldo and Richard Corleto had 12 and 10 markers, respectively.
Meanwhile, Sto. Nino dodged an upset after squandering a 71-64 lead with under two minutes remaining.
Sunny Villas mounted a scorching 10-3 run capped by a Randy Bartolome triple that knotted the game at 74 with 13.1 seconds left.
Pipo Gonzales drew a foul and split his free throws to put Sto. Nino back on top with 5.3 ticks left. Sunny Villas got two more attempts in their last possession must missed both as the final buzzer sounded.
Clark Ballesteros scored 17 points while Glen Favila had 13 for Sto. Nino.
Riegel Alcaraz saw his 29 points go down the drain with Sunny Villas’ stinging loss.
Matillano was joined in the Mythical Team by Richard Corleto of Village East, the San Isidro, Taytay pair of TJ Aguilar and Jocel Ponciano, and Leo Ocampo of St. Charbel.
Ayala Heights' Tonino Gonzaga captured the MVP award in the 30 and above category as the Mythical Five was comprised of Ralph Rubi of Sunny Villas, Joey Abringe of Don Antonio Heights, and the duo of Arvin Mendoza and Mark Deluta of Cambridge Village.
The division MVPs also received Google Wifi packages.
