Filipino-American guard Remy Martin knocked down the biggest shot in one of the Arizona State program's biggest victories in NCAA men's basketball as the No. 18 Sun Devils defeated No. 1-ranked Kansas, 80-76 at home, Sunday Manila time.
Martin poured in 10 points, none bigger than his go-ahead jumper with under one minute to go to break the 76-all deadlock, to go along with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Sun Devils guard Rob Edwards had 15 points off the bench to lead the balanced Arizona State offense, which had five players in double figures as they hand the Jayhawks their first road game loss.
Martin, a sophomore guard for Arizona State, is part of Gilas Pilipinas' vaunted '23-for-23' program, a pool of young cagers who are set to represent the Philippines in the upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup in Manila.
Kansas started off strong, taking the 39-31 lead after the first half, before Arizona State rode the wave of its strong crowd in the second half, outscoring the Jayhakws, 49-37 for the victory.
Junior forward Dedric Lawson led the Jayhawks with a 30-point, 14-rebound double-double effort in the loss.
