ABL: Jimmy Alapag looks back at 'blessed' 2018
Productive 2018 for Coach Jimmy Alapag

Jimmy Alapag capped off a stellar 2018 run with a bang after going undefeated in four outings in the ninth season of the ASEAN Basketball League.

From copping his first championship in his first year as a head coach in May to closing the year with an undefeated record, the sophomore tactician of San Miguel Alab Pilipinas described 2018 as a very fruitful stretch.

"It's been an incredible experience. I've been very fortunate to have coached a great group last season for the championship and have another really good group this year. 2018 was a blessed year for myself, making this transition to coaching and winning a championship," said the former PBA superstar.

In their latest victory against Singapore at the Caloocan Sports Complex, Alab survived a late scare from the Slingers. For Alapag, the last few minutes exposed areas of their game that need a lot of improving. Out of their 77 points, only two came from the bench courtesy of a Brandon Rosser slam.

"We got lucky tonight. I got to do a better job of coaching these guys. We could be much better offensively. I got to find ways to maximize our bench. We had two points in our bench tonight. We have way too much talent, and I feel like we have the deepest bench in the league but I have to do a better job of putting them in position to play better," Alapag said.

"I'll be watching a lot of film after Christmas," he added in between laughs.

Despite an almost first five exclusive offensive production, as Alapag said it, "We want to finish this year strong and at the end of the day a win is a win and I'm happy about the win but I told them 2019 is gonna be another big year so we got a lot of work to do so we'll enjoy this time with family muna."

After the holidays break, Alab Pilipinas will take on China's Wolf Warriors on January 6, 2019. That match will kickstart a deadly schedule for Alab with home and away games set almost every other day.
