All of Alab Pilipinas put on a show before ultimately putting away Chinese team Zhuhai to stay spotless in the 2018-2019 Asean Basketball League.
Renaldo Balkman was a force as always, but it was point guards Ethan Alvano and Josh Urbiztondo who proved to be the thorns on the side of the Wolf Warriors in a 105-95 romp on Sunday at the Lapu-Lapu Sports Complex in Cebu.
Balkman was brilliant all game long with 21 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals while Alvano and Urbiztondo wound up with 21 and 19 markers, respectively
The contest was close for the first 12 minutes and the Filipino lead was only at 25-22 early in the second until Urbiztondo fired 10 points to detonate a 19-6 blast that put his side up, 44-28, late in the quarter.
Both the lead and the momentum would remain with the Filipinos until the final buzzer.
In all, seasoned Urbiztondo and youngblood Alvano waxed hot for all the time they were on the court and merged for nine triples. Add Pao Javelona’s own two treys and the Philippines’ floor leaders had all but five of their entire team’s total long-range missiles.
With that, hulking Puerto Rican reinforcement PJ Ramos and back-to-back Local MVP Ray Parks Jr. didn’t even have to do much with the former having just seven points to go along with 11 rebounds and six assists and the latter having 12 markers and three boards.
The Philippines is now undefeated through five games in its title defense.
