Alab Pilipinas and Mono Vampire had another classic contest between them

The cast of characters may have changed, but it was the same old story as Alab Pilipinas and Thailand’s Mono met for the first time in the 2018-2019 Asean Basketball League.

Riding Renaldo Balkman and new guys PJ Ramos and Ethan Alvano in the endgame, the Filipinos got the better of the visiting Vampire once more in a thrilling 110-100 triumph in overtime on Sunday at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex.

A season ago, the Philippines bested the Thais for the championship.

Just like that time, Balkman and Ray Parks Jr. played big roles for Alab in this one.

Only, they also had newcomers Ramos, Alvano, and Caelan Tiongson right there with them.

In fact, it was Balkman, Alvano, and Ramos who got together for the 12-7 run that increased a one-point edge to a 102-96 lead inside the last two minutes in overtime.

Parks Jr.’s floater then put the icing on the cake that was the Filipinos’ eighth win in 10 games.

It was also their first back-to-back wins in the new year which had seen them go through struggles.

With the gutsy win, though, the Philippines has now strengthened its stranglehold on the league lead.
