Former NBA player Lamar Odom has finally arrived in the country, as he is set to represent Mighty Sports in the Dubai International Basketball Championship tournament slated to start Feb. 1.
Odom was welcomed Wednesday afternoon by sports agent Sheryl Sanchez-Reyes and documented the meet-up on her Twitter account.
Barely a day in the country, the former NBA Sixth Man of the Year was seen hoisting and swishing shots in practice, which made him look like the point forward basketball fans have come to have known and loved, most notably in his stint with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Feeling great, brand new and just really blessed for starting over in Basketball. My Filipino brothers and sisters have welcomed me with open arms & hearts and I feel blessed to be here.… https://t.co/Xx5vLWT29r— LAMAR ODOM (@RealLamarOdom) January 23, 2019
Mighty Sports last played in the Dubai International Basketball Tournament in 2017. That squad had former NBA players as well in the form of Hasheem Thabeet and Dominic McGuire.
Odom's last stint in the NBA was with the New York Knicks in 2014. He was hospitalized in 2015, falling into a coma after suffering kidney failure and multiple strokes.
A two-time NBA champion with the LA Lakers, Odom has international experience, having been a member of Team USA during the 2004 Olympics and the 2010 FIBA World Championship. He also had a short stint in Europe, playing two games for the Spanish squad Laboral Kutxa Baskonia.
The fourth overall pick of the LA Clippers during the 1999 NBA Draft, the 6'10" Odom wrapped up his 14-year run in the Association with career averages of 13.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks.
