Alab Pilipinas is undefeated when playing at home in the 2018-2018 ABL
STA. ROSA, LAGUNA – The Philippines has been an impenetrable fortress thus far in the 2018-2019 Asean Basketball League.
Getting the usual from Renaldo Balkman and PJ Ramos and getting welcome contributions from Josh Urbiztondo and Lo Domingo, Alab Pilipinas got the better of visiting Hong Kong once more, 88-76, on Sunday at the Sta. Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex here.
Playing without back-to-back Local MVP Ray Parks Jr. for the second straight game, the home team needed Urbiztondo and Domingo to step up and provide backup for their reinforcements.
They did just that with veteran Urbiztondo turning in his best outing of the season with 16 points, four steals, three assists, and three rebounds and stalwart pounding in 10 markers and seven boards
The two conspired with Balkman who had nine points of his own in the pivotal 17-2 third quarter push that turned a two-point edge into a 62-45 lead.
Eastern would only come as close as 12 the rest of the way.
In the end, Balkman had 20 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists while Ramos had his own 18-marker, 19-board double-double to go along with six dimes.
Caelan Tiongson also added 10 points while Ethan Alvano collected seven markers, seven rebounds, and five assists to help make up for the absence of Parks Jr. who was out again due to a groin injury.
That total team effort was more than enough to preserve the Filipinos’ perfect record on home soil where they have won nine out of nine games.
More importantly, that also kept them alone atop the leaderboard now at 10-2.
The result was no different from when the two teams last met two weeks ago with the Philippines overwhelming Hong Kong with its depth.
Marcus Elliott paced Eastern in this one with 21 points as they dropped to 9-8 in the standings.
ALAB PILIPINAS 88 -- Balkman 20, Ramos 18, Urbiztondo 16, Domingo 10, Tiongson 10, Alvano 7, Rosser 4, Javelona 3, Sumalinog 0, Torres 0.
