FIBA: Yeng will name Gilas 12 in Doha
Guiao says all players from his strong 14-man pool will make the trip to Qatar and Kazakhstan. He will decide the final team there.

Just like in previous windows, national team head coach Yeng Guiao will take his sweet time before naming his Gilas 12 for the very crucial road games in the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

Guiao says all players from his strong 14-man pool will make the trip to Qatar and Kazakhstan. He will decide the final team there.

The national team will depart for Doha on Saturday, February 16, and they will meet naturalized center Andray Blatche there once they touch down in Qatar.

Blatche trained with Gilas in Manila but had to leave for China last Feb. 11.

Aside from Blatche, also making the trip to the Middle East are Jayson Castro, June Mar Fajardo, Gabe Norwood, Mark Barroca, Paul Lee, Scottie Thompson, Marcio Lassiter, Troy Rosario, Japeth Aguilar, Poy Erram, Raymond Almazan, RR Pogoy, and Thirdy Ravena.

“Kasama lahat yun,” Guiao said on their trip to Qatar and Kazakhstan.

“Doon na [Finals 12]. Mabuti na rin na mayroon kaming mga extra bodies, just in case anything happens, wag naman sana, maku-kumpleto pa rin tayo ng 12,” he added.

As for their opponents in the two crucial road games, it seems like Qatar and Kazakhstan will also take their time in naming their official lineups.

“So far, yung Qatar, mukhang wala silang... Doon sa info namin, mukhang wala silang naturalized na American. Hindi ko alam kung mayroon silang naturalized na Africans or Europeans, pero naturalized na American, mukhang wala sa lineup nila,” Guiao said of Qatar.

“Yung Kazakhstan, mayroon, mayroon silang I think American na naturalized,” Guiao added.
