With such a precious opportunity, Thirdy says his older brother has talked to him about how he can maximize this chance with Gilas Pilipinas.
Kiefer Ravena has been a mainstay for Gilas Pilipinas but as the Phenom continues to deal with his suspension from FIBA, another Ravena is taking flight for the Philippine national team.
For the sixth and final window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, Thirdy Ravena has made the strong 14-man pool for Gilas Pilipinas.
The Ateneo star and UAAP Season 81 Finals MVP is the only amateur in the line-up and will make the trip to Qatar and Kazakhstan with the chance to make the main roster.
With such a precious opportunity, Thirdy says his older brother has talked to him about how he can maximize this chance.
“To not do anything different,” Thirdy said when asked on what advice Kiefer has given to him.
“Kasi kinuha ka nila jan with a specific role in mind, you don’t need to try and do other things just so you could show to the coaches, or prove to the coaches, na kaya mo gawin yun,” he added.
There’s no room for hero ball and one has to stick to the system, that’s pretty much what Thirdy got from his older brother.
While the younger Ravena’s slot in the final 12 is not exactly a sure thing, one thing that is is that Thirdy will make sure his role will be fulfilled whatever that is.
Thirdy was chosen to be a part of Gilas and part of that is making sure the job is done.
“Just stick to your role and understand kung ano yung kailangan nila sayo and just do it with the best of your abilities,” Thirdy said.
“Yun nga, whatever role it is, kung gusto naman ng coach yung ginagawa mo, mala-line-up ka talaga so just stick to what you can do and just do it well,” he added.
