Kai Sotto was present as the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 officially opened on Saturday at the SM Megamall Events Center in Mandaluyong.
However, Ateneo de Manila High School’s towering teen wasn’t there to play.
Instead, he served as judge for the event’s Slam Dunk Contest – which Kobe Paras won.
Still, Sotto only acknowledged that it would be interesting to play this brand of basketball. “Parang naging interesting saking i-try ‘tong 3x3 ngayong napanood kong live,” he said.
This, even though, apparently, he has never ever played 3x3. “’Di ko pa na-try maglaro. Napanood ko pa lang,” he said.
Without a doubt, witnessing the UAAP 81 Juniors MVP trying to extend his rule to three-on-three basketball would be nothing but intriguing.
And for Sotto himself, his life could actually be easier in this game. As he put it, “Sa tingin ko, mas advantage pa ako rito kasi mas madali kung malaki ka rito e. Tatayo ka lang talaga sa ilalim. Mag-aabang lang.”
Whether or not he finally gets to try 3x3 remains to be seen as, for now, he and the rest of the Blue Eaglets are laser-focused on their Finals showdown with Nazareth School of National University.
Still, it’s only good news for the young sports and its growing lead that Kai Sotto - 7-foot-1, 16-year-old - is interested.
