Before the national team deals with sub-zero temperatures, they have to land at Astana first. It’s not as easy as it sounds.
Kazakhstan’s freezing weather is not the only external and uncontrollable factor Gilas Pilipinas has to deal with in the 6th and final window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
Before the national team deals with sub-zero temperatures, they have to land at Astana first.
It’s not as easy as it sounds.
“Mabigat kasi walang direct flight [from Qatar],” Gilas head coach Yeng Guiao said.
“Kailangan pa kami magpunta sa Turkey. I think five hours yun, Qatar to Turkey,” he added.
Once they make it to Turkey, Gilas will have to spend a long time waiting for its next flight out.
Going to Kazakhstan is going to be a mental and physical challenge for Gilas Pilipinas.
“Layover kami ng walong oras sa Turkey tapos 5 hours ulit papuntang Kazakhstan,” Guiao said.
“Darating kami ng madaling araw and then sa gabi, practice namin, sa umaga next day game na. Ganoon katindi,” he added.
