The Philippines can barely afford any more errors in Group F as suffering a dumbfounding third straight loss could prove fatal to the countryís World Cup aspirations.
Gilas Pilipinas’ treacherous road back to the FIBA World Cup will start Thursday [Friday in Manila].
The sixth and final window of the Asian Qualifiers will have the Philippines play two road games and the first will be against Qatar in Doha.
Currently 4th in Group F with an even 5-5 record, Gilas Pilipinas will look to finally bounce back from back-to-back losses suffered at home during the 5th window in late November and early December last year.
The Philippines can barely afford any more errors in Group F as suffering a dumbfounding third straight loss could prove fatal to the country’s World Cup aspirations.
With that being said, even a sweep from Gilas can still somehow result to elimination.
Nevertheless, the national team has a task at hand against Qatar, a team they struggled to put away at home back in window no. 4 in front of a grand total of 220 people at the Big Dome in a closed-door match.
While favored, Gilas Pilipinas will be hardpressed to submit its A-game in order to leave Doha with a big win.
For Qatar, the Philippines will have the returning Andray Blatche at the lead. Behind the naturalized center are Jayson Castro, June Mar Fajardo, Gabe Norwood, Paul Lee, Japeth Aguilar, Mark Barroca, Marcio Lassiter, JP Erram, Scottie Thompson, Troy Rosario, and Thirdy Ravena.
Gilas Pilipinas vs. Qatar will tip off from Doha at exactly 7:00 p.m. or 12 midnight in Manila.
