Playoff-bound Quezon City and Bataan built up their confidence more ahead of the quarterfinal round by coming up with contrasting wins over their respective rivals last Thursday in the MPBL Datu Cup at the People’s Center in Balanga, Bataan.
Jay Collado, Mon Mabayo, and Jomar Santos conspired up front to give the Capitals a big lift and carried their team to a 75-68 triumph over the Cebu Sharks.
The 6-foot-5 Collado, Quezon City’s representative in the coning MPBL All-Star game,
Collado finished with a double-double effort of 24 points and 11 rebounds while also getting a lot of help from his frontline partner, Mabayo who had 17 points and 12 rebounds while sweet-shooting power forward Santos added 13 points.
Following their latest win, Quezon City got back to the .500 mark of the northern division of the tournament.
The Capitals stayed at sixth spot with a 12-12 win-loss card.
But Quezon City is not the only one in the mood to stay on the win track.
Tournament leader Bataan played true to form in dumping Paranaque, 102-73, in the other game.
The Risers notched their 22nd win in 24 games, but they have a chance to wrap up their elimination round campaign with a win in their final schedule against the lowly Pasig Pirates, owner of the tournament’s worst record.
