Filipino-American point guard Remy Martin led the way for the Arizona State Sun Devils in an impressive all-around performance as they overwhelm their rival Arizona Wildcats, 72-64 in the men's NCAA basketball Tournament. Sunday (PHL time) at the McKale Center.
Martin had a game-high 27 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven assists as the Sun Devils complete a season series sweep over the Wildcats.
Arizona State improved to 21-9 and 12-6 in the conference after fighting through foul trouble to hold off Arizona after a knotted spread at the half, 33-all.
Martin then erupted for 17 of his 27 markers in the second half to help the Sun Devils pull away and end an eight-game losing streak at the Wildcats' home turf.
The sophomore guard's electrifying performance was an encore to his career-best 31-point outing against the same opponents last January 31.
Freshman guard Luguentz Dort backstopped Martin with 15 points built on three triples, while Sun Devil big man Zylan Cheatham did a little bit of everthing with 13 markers, six boards, two dimes, and two blocks.
Brandon Randolph and Ryan Luther paced the Wildcats with 12 points apiece in a losing effort.
