Davao Occidental will have to wait the winner of the rubber match between Batangas and Zamboanga
Davao Occidental had a trouble-free ride reaching the championship round of the MPBL Datu Cup south division as it ran roughshod over Bacoor, 87-67, while inaugural staging champion Batangas City lived for another day and set up a rubber match by dumping Zamboanga, 67-57, last Saturday at the Batangas City Coliseum.
Joseph Terso stepped up big time and knocked in four treys on his way to finishing with 14 points while Mark Yee continued his MVP play with yet another double-double performance, allowing the Tigers to roar their way to the championship round of the south division of the tournament.
Yee had another double-double effort of 12 points and 11 rebounds while adding five shot blocks for the Tigers who completed a two-game sweep of the Strikers.
Eman Calo also tallied 14 markers while Leo Najorda went a rebound away from posting a double-double performance, contributing 13 points while also adding four steals.
Davao Occidental will wait for the winner of the Batangas City-Zamboanga series, which was extended following the Athletics’ big bounce back victory at home.
Jeff Viernes scattered 16 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists while Jhaymo Eguilos chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Athletics who also got timely contributions from Mon Rogado who added nine markers.
