1Bataan Risers put up a gallant stand in the 2019 Chooks-to-Go 3x3 Asia Pacific Super Quest Finals against world no. 19 Tokyo Dime.exe before surrendering a 20-22 decision, Sunday at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.
Japan, the champions of this FIBA 3x3-endorsed tourney went home with USD 20,000, a ticket to the 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Tour Masters Doha, and a seat to the Challengers in Penang on May 12 to 13.
Runner-up Philippines then ended up with USD 15,000 and a seat to Doha as well.
Still, 1Bataan was this close to the top spot.
With 1:21 left, Alvin Pasaol scored inside to move them to just a point away from clinching the match.
A quick basket by Serbian Peter Perunovic cut the lead to just a solitary point and then Santi Santillan was slapped with a technical foul for delay of game.
Keita Suzuki knocked down the freebie to knot things up and then Santillan tried to make up for his blunder with a corner deuce.
His shot badly missed, however, and not long after Suzuki knocked down a two-pointer to seal the championship for his side.
Japan's top player Tomoyo Ochiai and Petrunovic scored six points, apiece.
On the other hand, the Risers were led by Pasaol who had seven markers while Santillan and American reinforcement Travis Franklin chipped in five each.
