Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, and Taylor Statham playing for the Philippines in international play is a possibility, says the SBP
A month after Joshua Munzon, then the top-ranked 3x3 player in the Philippines, said it would be an honor to represent the country in international play, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas acknowledged that has the possibility of turning into reality.
Asked about letting Munzon and other top-ranked players such as Alvin Pasaol and Taylor Statham wear the flag in the upcoming 2019 SEA Games, SBP 3x3 director Ronnie Magsanoc answered, "That is a big possibility. Yung mga nasa (Chooks 3x3), most of them have made it to the top 100 already so they will always be considered even as a part of the pool."
Magsanoc made it a point to say, however, that at present, the SBP's plan of attack for the regional games is yet to be determined.
Aside from Munzon, Pasaol, and Statham, the Philippines' top 20 3x3 players include Alvin Pasaol, Santi Santillan, Troy Rike, Karl Dehesa, Jaypee Belencion, Arvin Tolentino, Sean Manganti, Anton Asistio, Ron Lastimosa, Dylan Ababou, John Wilson, Larry Muyang, Roosevelt Adams, Leo De Vera, Paolo Hubalde, Jojo Cunanan, Chris De Chavez, Jan Jamon, and Rey Suerte. All saw action in the Chooks Pilipinas 3x3 in February and March.
For his part, Chooks 3x3 president Ronald Mascarinas only welcomed the development. "As I said in the part, we are offering the players in our league to the country - the SBP and any other entity that will need the top 3x3 players to represent the country in any international tournament," he said.
He then continued, "This means that all players who played in our Chooks 3x3 are available."
