When Adamson’s men’s, women’s, and juniors basketball teams needed a mentor, the San Marcelino-based school turned to one man and one man only
Ateneo de Manila High School did not miss a beat in its first game sans Kai Sotto as Forthsky Padrigao took the lead in their 74-71 victory versus Adamson High School, Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Padrigao stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, seven steals, four assists, and four rebounds and was backstopped by backcourt partner Joaqs Jaymalin who had 16 markers and five boards of his own.
The Blue Eaglets needed both of them to quell the Baby Falcons' late rally and barge into the win column in just their first try in the preseason tournament.
Josh Lazaro, who had just transferred from San Beda High School, had quite a productive debut with two points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks. His effort down low, alongside Jynno Ladimo and Rafael Pangilinan, helped make up for the big void left behind by 7-foot-2, 17-year-old Sotto who is now training in the US.
For Adamson, rookie Matt Erolon fronted the attack with 18 points.
