AP Manlapaz has wasted no time in making an immediate impact, claiming the crown in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason All-Star Slam Dunk Contest.
The Adamson University rookie was the only competitor in the eight-man field who made good on all of his dunks in the showcase event, Friday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
Manlapaz, a 6-foot-4 athletic forward, put a punctuation mark in the final round with an off-the-bounce reverse two-handed slam which got a solid 45 from the judges composed of Philippine basketball legends Danny Ildefonso and Danny Seigle, collegiate greats Bradwyn Guinto and Denok Miranda, and LGR owner Rhayan Cruz.
That was more than enough to beat out fellow finalists Rhenz Abado of University of Sto. Tomas and Adama Faye of National University.
Other competitors included Jerome Santos of Centro Escolar University, Neil Guarino of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Fritz Saladaga of Lyceum of the Philippines University, and Joe Gomez de Liano of the University of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University's Ken Tuffin ruled the Three-Point Shootout with 20 points in the final round.
He edged out Kent Segura of Arellano University, Carlo Young of College of St. Benilde, Andrei Caracut of De La Salle University, MJ Dela Virgen of Jose Rizal University, Ain Obenza of San Beda University, Mario Bonleon of San Sebastian College-Recoletos, and Jerrick Ahanmisi of Adamson
