San Beda, La Salle rekindle rivalry in Filoil Finals
San Beda and La Salle will do battle for the 2019 Filoil Preseason championship

Traditional powerhouses San Beda University and De La Salle University will wage war for all the glory in the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament after vanquishing their respective opponents.

The Red Lions came from behind to take down Adamson University, 75-70, Thursday at Filoil Flying V Centre.

James Canlas topped the scoring column with 16 points while Cameroonian powerhouse Donald Tankoua tallied a 15-marker, 10-rebound double-double to help the kings of NCAA come out on top in a contest that featured 12 lead changes and eight deadlocks.

With the two teams all even at 70-all with 2:26 remaining, however, it was Calvin Oftana who hit the cold-blooded three that proved to be the go-ahead basket.

A helter-skelter sequence and a couple of charities by Canlas later and San Beda booked its ticket into the championship round of the preseason tournament.

Oftana wound up with eight points and five rebounds while Evan Nelle also added an all-around eight markers, eight assists, and five boards.

With the well-earned win, the Red Lions have a golden opportunity for a clean sweep of the Filoil Preseason - a feat they also accomplished back in 2017.

A well-earned win was also gotten by the Green Archers who had to withstand a furious fightback before putting away Lyceum of the Philippines University, 82-80.

Justine Baltazar was the driving force for it all with a dominant double-double of 22 points and 22 rebounds to go along with two steals and a block.

Encho Serrano was his running mate with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists while the guard cerberus of Jordan Bartlett, Aljun Melecio, and Andrei Caracut combined for 28 markers, seven dimes, and five boards.

La Salle and San Beda, old rivals in the old NCAA, will duke it out for the championship on Sunday still at the same venue.

The Soaring Falcons and the Pirates, meanwhile, will figure in a Battle for Third.

Prized rookie Aaron Fermin showed the way for young Adamson with 22 points and seven rebounds while Enoch Valdez and Jeff Santos each scored 15 markers for LPU which was without both top gun Jaycee Marcelino and Cameroonian powerhouse Mike Nzeusseu.
