Gilas Youth remains winless and is now out of the running in the 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup, but not before standing tall in the face of world no. 4 Serbia and surrendering a 60-87 decision, early Thursday morning (Philippine time) inside Heraklion Indoor Sports Arena in Greece.

Dave Ildefonso and Kai Sotto starred anew for the Filipinos with the former finishing with 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists and the latter ending with 13 markers, eight boards, and three dimes.

Gerry Abadiano also turned in his best game of the world meet with 12 points on top of two rebounds and two assists while Carl Tamayo contributed seven markers and five boards.

All of that was unable to topple the global powerhouse, however, and the Philippines is now headed to the classification round even as the Serbians advance to the quarterfinals.

Still, Gilas Youth actually got a strong start and even had a 12-8 edge early on before falling victim to a 33-9 tear by their opponents.

That did nothing but spell doom for the Filipinos who could only come as close as 12 for the remainder of the game.

Sotto, Ildefonso, and company have yet to win a game as they have dropped all of their assignments opposite higher-ranked Greece, Argentina, Russia, and now, Serbia.

Nonetheless, they have a golden opportunity to better the country's best finish in the FIBA U19 World Cup - 10th-place way back in 1979.

To do so, the Philippines will first have to take care of business against world no. 10 Australia in the beginning of the classification round on Friday (Philippine time).
