Gilas Youth dropped its worst decision in the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, a 64-92 beatdown at the hands of Russia, early Wednesday morning (Philippine time) inside Heraklion Indoor Sports Arena in Greece
Kai Sotto and Dave Ildefonso yet again showed the way for the Filipinos with the former finishing with 14 points, seven rebounds, and six blocks and the latter ending with 14 markers, six boards, five assists, and two steals.
All those were for naught, however, as the Russians took complete control from the get-go and took away the Philippines' last chance for a win in the group stage.
Russia showed no mercy until the final buzzer, increasing its lead to as much as 28 with under two minutes remaining.
In the end, Carl Tamayo also added 12 points and five rebounds for Gilas Youth which failed to get the better of all of higher-ranked Greece, Argentina, and now, Russia.
The Filipinos have no time to waste in going back to the drawing board as awaiting them in the Round of 16 is world no. 4 Serbia. The tournament goes into its knockout phase beginning late Wednesday night (Philippine time).
