Gilas Youth was out of sync all game long late Friday night (Philippine time) inside Greece's Heraklion Indoor Sports Arena and eventually ended up bowing to Australia, 60-82, at the start of the classification round of the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup.
The Filipinos counted three players in double-digits led by Dave Ildefonso's 13 points to go along with four rebounds and followed by Kai Sotto who posted a 12-marker, 12-board double-double as well as Gerry Abadiano who chipped in 12 points and three assists.
Ildefonso, Sotto, and the rest of the Philippine national youth team, however, just couldn't find a rhythm and thus, just couldn't find their way to their first win in the tournament.
The Australians blasted off to an 11-0 edge right from tip-off and never looked back all the way to the Battle for 9th opposite Latvia.
On the other hand, Gilas Youth will now figure in the classification games for the 13th to 16th places. Their first meeting will be opposite China on Saturday night (Philippine time).
The sorry loss, their fifth in as many games, takes away their golden opportunity to better the country's best finish in the FIBA U19 World Cup - 10th-place way back in 1979.

PHILIPPINES 60 -- Ildefonso 13, Sotto 12, Abadiano 12, Tamayo 6, Panopio 4, Spencer 3, Fortea 3, Torres 3, Amsali 2, Chiu 2, Oczon 0.
QUARTER SCORES: 23-11, 45-26, 65-44, 82-60.
