“It’s a good test,” Gilas coach Yeng Guiao said on Mighty Sports practice game.
Gilas Pilipinas is in the middle of a rocky prep to the 2019 FIBA World Cup and the Philippine national team should get its first real test very soon.
The Mighty Sports crew, doing their own preparations for the 2019 Jones Cup, will challenge Gilas in a practice game next week.
It should be a good one as both teams figure out where they stand at the moment.
“It’s a good test,” Gilas coach Yeng Guiao said.
“Pero I’m not expecting too much because we’ve just been walking through our plays. We have to start from the beginning every time we practice kasi may darating na bago, may a-absent. Kumbaga we have to learn to read and write every time. Hindi kami maka-advance masyado sa aming mga sessions,” he added.
Against Mighty, Gilas will face former coach Rajko Toroman and five imports led by Renaldo Balkman and Eugene Phelps.
The problem for the national team as well is that its locals are still focused on the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup. None of them have locked in to Gilas quite yet.
“Our problem is the players are not yet focused on the job with Gilas, they’re still focused on their mother teams,” Guiao said.
“That’s really a big obstacle for now. But I still want to see them play in a hard game, in a tough game against a strong team,” he added.
