TERRIFIC 12: SMB’s Grand Slam prep starts in Macau
The Beermen will start Group B play Tuesday as they do battle against the Shenzhen Aviators of the Chinese Basketball Association.

MACAU — Before San Miguel tries to complete a Grand Slam in the PBA, the Beermen’s resolve will be tested here in the East Asia Super League’s The Terrific 12 tournament.

The Beermen will start Group B play Tuesday as they do battle against the Shenzhen Aviators of the Chinese Basketball Association.

San Miguel retains its powerful All-Filipino core that won a fifth straight Philippine Cup title this year as well as regaining the Commissioner’s Cup, setting up a Grand Slam chase for the second time in three seasons.

While five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo is doubtful with an ankle injury sustained in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, the Beermen still have Terrence Romeo, Alex Cabagnot, and Chris Ross to man the backcourt plus Christian Standhardinger up front.

San Miguel also acquired the services of import Lester Prosper to help fortify the team’s frontline. Dez Wells is the team’s main import as he’ll also suit up in the Governors’ Cup once the Beermen return to the PBA.

Shenzhen will be on the other side of the court when San Miguel makes its East Asia Super League debut.

The Aviators are coming off a semifinal finish from the recent CBA season and are led by former NBA guard Shabazz Muhammad and 2019 CBA Scoring Champion Pierre Jackson.

Shenzhen then has 6’9” Shen Zijie and 7’2” Li Muhao patrolling the paint.

The San Miguel-Shenzhen showdown will be the third game of a loaded Day 1 slate on Tuesday and will tip off at 7:00 p.m. live from the Tap Seac Multi-sport Pavilion here.
