MACAU — Marqus Blakely has been a member of the Elite for like three days and yet he already wants to see his new team succeed.
In his first game Blackwater however, the former PBA Best Import felt like he let his new team down.
While he finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists Tuesday in The Terrific 12 tournament here, Blakely only played 24 minutes for Blackwater. He had three fouls in the opening period alone, forcing him to be glued on the bench.
The Elite took a 93-77 beatdown at the hands of South Korea’s Seoul SK Knights.
“I feel like I kinda let my team down in the beginning,” Blakely said.
“They kinda look at me as a leader and a veteran, to gel everybody together. For me not to be out there on the floor realy hurt my team, and it hurt me too,” he added.
Despite the rough start, things should get better for Blakely and the Elite.
It’s not going to be easy though as Blackwater has a Japanese powerhouse in the Chiba Jets up next in the Terrific 12 at the Tap Seac Multi-sport Pavillion.
“I left Friday from Florida and now I’m here playing. My body is still adjusting,” Blakely said.
“I’m still adjusting to the team and players are adjusting to me. We’re still fresh from where we are in the season, we just gotta get better, we can’t look for excuses,” he added.
