MACAU — After their first international tournament in the East Asia Super League’s The Terrific 12 here, the San Miguel Beermen are looking for more.
Despite not winning a championship, the Beermen made a good account of themselves, making it to the semifinals of the Terrific 12 before ultimately missing out on a podium by losing to the CBA’s Zhejiang Guangsha Lions Sunday.
It was a golden chance for San Miguel to compete in the East Asia Super League and the Beermen are hoping this year’s tournament is not their last foreign business trip.
“We’re so lucky to be invited in this tournament,” head coach Leo Austria said.
“And we’re looking forward next year for us to be invited here again,” he added as the Beermen got tested by mostly CBA teams in the Terrific 12.
The fact that San Miguel, the top PBA team for almost five years now, got to share the court against strong Chinese squads is already a win.
Only good things will come out by exposing yourself to different competition after all.
“We’re gaining a lot of knowledge and experience in this tournament,” Austria said.
“We’re able to see a lot of good players, especially coming from the CBA, KBL, and [B.League] from Japan. By joining this tournament, you can see your neighbors how good they are and it’s a good opportunity for us to learn,” he added.
