Mighty Sports-Pilipinas is bound for the 2020 Dubai International Basketball Tournament with the strongest squad it has ever had.
With Andray Blatche and Renaldo Balkman powering the youthful core comprised by Dave Ildefonso, Jamie Malonzo, Thirdy Ravena, Kai Sotto, and Gomez de Liano brothers Javi and Juan, the Filipino representatives are nothing but poised to bring home its maiden title in the tournament.
Indeed, it's championship or bust, even in the eyes of head coach Charles Tiu. "We better win the championship, that's all I can say," he said.
He then continued, "Hopefully, we learned our lessons from our mistakes last year."
A year ago, the Philippines settled for third-place even with Ginebra's resident import Justin Brownlee and NBA champion Lamar Odom showing the way.
Now, Mighty Sports has reloaded and has, actually, become fully loaded.
Still, Coach Charles is not guaranteeing anything just yet - especially as they haven't had any practice with a full roster. "It's not gonna be easy. Every tournament like this, one bad game is all it's gonna take," he said.
He then continued, "We're not really a team yet. We've been together for (just a little over a week) so that's always going to be a challenge, but hopefully, we can figure things out."
