MANILA – After all is said in done, through all media appearances during fight week, it all boiled down to the final battle before stepping into the ring – the scales. It has been said over and over through the course of his camp that Manny Pacquiao is fighting closer to his natural weight, hence the making of the catchweight for this bout at 144-pounds.
As expected of Pacquiao, who usually tips the scales a few pounds lighter during his fights at 147-pounds, the eight division world champion weighed in at 143.8-pounds on Saturday morning in Macau, China.
The exact opposite scenario played out for Algieri, though, as he was over the limit when he stepped in at 144.2-pounds. Algieri did make weight the second time around, tipping the scales at 143.6-pounds. But while missing weight is usually not a good sign for any fighter, the Algieri camp is not worried about it at all.
"I'd rather be well fed and feel good, than be really sucked out,” the 30-year old undefeated fighter said in front of a group of media after the weigh-ins. “But to do something like this, this is nothing."
