MANILA – WBO International junior welterweight titlist Jason Pagara will be getting his taste of the limelight this February.
“El Niño” (34-2, with 21 victories by knockout) will be putting both his title on the line against Mexico’s Cesar “El Dolar” Chavez (23-7, with 11 victories by knockout) as the headline bout for Pinoy Pride 29: Fist of Fury on February 7th in Davao City.
Ranked number four by the WBO, a victory for Pagara will further solidify his status as one of the top 140-pound fighters in the world. This was also concurred by ALA Promotions President and CEO Michael Aldeguer, who believes an excellent showing from Pagara’s could open up opportunities for him in the international scene.
“We have to know where he (Jason) is at,” said Aldeguer. “If he does well, he will campaign in the U.S. against bigger names.”
Pagara is believed to have been targeting WBA light welterweight champion Jessie Vargas for his next fight.
In the co-main event, WBO International Jr. featherweight champion Genesis “Azukal” Servania (25-0, with 11 victories by knockout) will be defending both his title and undefeated win-loss slate against another Mexican in Juan Luis “Perla Negra” Hernandez (17-3-1, with 9 victories by knockout).
An impressive performance from Servania will likely earn him a shot against Cuban boxing specialist and WBA/WBO 122-pound champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.
Also on the card will be a head-to-head clash between Filipino standouts “King” Arthur Villanueva and Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo.
Villanueva last fought in September 2014 in a split-decision battle against Argentina’s Henry Maldonado, while Magsayo’s most recent bout was during Pinoy Pride 28 in November of the same year, where he decisively defeated Korea’s Moon-Sun Jung via second round knockout.
Both men will be putting their undefeated records on the line.
