MANILA – Bob Arum has now confirmed that negotiations for the Mayweater-Pacquiao mega bout have once again progressed a step closer.
Speaking with the Associated Press, the Top Rank Promotions head honcho confirmed that cable networks HBO and Showtime have finally reached an agreement. There are, however, some more issues have remained to be taken care of.
''We had four issues and we resolved two,' said Arum. ''Now we're working on resolving the other two. Unless something else comes up at the last minute, that's what my take is.''
''There's a lot of devil in the details and that's what we're sorting through now,” he continued. “The remaining issues are obviously important to the participants, and are things we have to work out.''
The 83-year old promoter did not identify what the unresolved aspects of the negotiations were, but he did confirm that the 60-40 purse split has been agreed on, with Mayweather taking the bigger cut.
Arum also stated that given most of the fight’s terms favor the Mayweather camp, the pound-for-pound king would be the one to personally make the announcement if and when the fight is finally finalized.
