Victories from Jason Pagara, Genesis Servania, and Arthur Villanueva could potentially unlock a world of opportunites
For Pinoy warriors like Jason Pagara, Genesis Servania, and Arthur Villanueva, “Pinoy Pride” is more than the title of an event that they’ll be competing in this Saturday. Pinoy pride is something that motivates these rising stars as they get ready to do battle against a host of foreign opponents that are looking to make a statement in Davao City.
The Mexican contingent, lead by Pagara’s challenger, Cesar Chavez, have already promised knockouts at Pinoy Pride 29. The hometown representatives on the other hand, bothered not to make any bold claims, but instead assured that they were ready for whatever challenges that their international counterparts bring.
Impressive wins from Pagara, Servania, and Villanueva could ultimately unlock the world for them.
“Ready na ready na po talaga kami lumaban ngayong Saturday. 100 percent talaga yung conditioning namin.” A focused Pagara told the press. The WBO International Junior Welterweight king will be putting his title on the line against “El Dolar” Chavez in Saturday’s main event.
Known for being a superpower in boxing, Mexico has produced some of the world’s best pugilists, and WBO Intercontinental Junior Featherweight champion Genesis Servania is well aware that it’s a warrior spirit that drives these combatants from South of the Border. “Pinaghandaan po namin ng mabuti itong laban na ito, kasi the Mexican is a warrior, pero lahat po, ginawa na po namin.”
Servania, who’ll be fighting for the first time in Davao, also has some added motivation to perfom well against challenger Juan Luis “Perla Negra” Hernandez in this Saturday’s co-main event. “First time ko din lalaban dito sa Davao, so ibibigay ko lahat ng best ko para ready na ako for a World Title fight.”
While “King” Arthur Villanueva won’t be competing for a title this Saturday, he knows how pivotal every fight is, especially at this stage in his career. “Lahat naman po ng laban namin, kahit saan, kahit sino yung kalaban, importante na maganda po yung performance at manalo. Napaka-importante po sa amin na manalo, especially na nasa matataas na rating na po kami ngayon sa world. Malapit na po kami sa World Championship, so importante po talaga.”
And while Pagara, Servania, and Villanueva have their eyes set on the world, a new breed of Filipino warriors are also looking to make names for themselves as Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo and Arjan “Spartan” Canillas try to take the first step by dispatching world-class opponents of their own this Saturday.
