Pinoy Pride 29’s Other Attraction

Last Sunday at the USEP Gym in Davao City, fans flocked to see some of the country’s best boxers face off against some tough international counterparts.
Indeed, the sluggers took to the center of the ring and had the crowd on their feet, cheering and applauding. However, there was another attraction that had a large part of the crowd cheering as well as the boxers took their breaks in between rounds.
Ring Girls have been part of boxing’s allure since one can remember. For some in fact, they are the real stars of the show. It takes a certain level of confidence, composure, and appeal to pull off being a Ring Girl.
Safe to say, it isn’t an easy gig.
Leading up to Pinoy Pride 29, ABS-CBN Sports caught up with the event’s two beautiful Ring Girls, Carin Ramos and Ruby Kindipan.
Carin, a registered Nurse who also does modelling on the side, was in fact a contestant in the 2013 Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant. Pinoy Pride 29 marked her first experience as a Ring Girl.
“It’s very exciting, since it’s my first time to be a Ring Girl, so medyo curious ako kung ano talaga yung gagawin, pero mukhang enjoy talaga!” Carin told ABS-CBN Sports. “Siguro sa first round kakahaban ako, kasi syempre, hindi pa ako aware sa gagawin, medyo may mga tense moments, pero sanay naman ako sa crowd!” she added.
Ruby, on the other hand, isn’t a newbie when it comes to being a Ring Girl. She has been part of a Pinoy Pride card once before, as well as other boxing events. Also a registered nurse, Ruby said that after passing the bar exams, she decided to pursue modelling instead, and has been active on the scene for five years. She was also part of the 24K briefcase girls on ABS-CBN’s Deal or No Deal, which ultimately led to her getting Ring Girl duties on Pinoy Pride 29.
“Nung first time ko na mag Ring Girl, naghihiyawan yung mga lalake! (Laughs) Pero ok lang naman, hindi naman sila bastos.”
During fight night, Carin and Ruby came out to the ring and got a reaction from the crowd, as loud as any of the other highlights during the night’s boxing action. Every time they would walk around the ring to hold up the round cards, fans around the ring would scramble to take snapshots of the beauties in a night filled with brawn.
After the event, ABS-CBN Sports caught up with Carin and Ruby to ask them about their Pinoy Pride 29 experience.
“Sobrang happy, kasi iba pala yung feeling kapag nasa ring ka na. Nung una kinabahan ako, pero nung sumisigaw na yung mga tao, mas nagkaroon ako ng confidence (laughs)”. Carin shared. When asked if she would like to be a Ring Girl again, she had this to say: “Yes, of course! Especially kung bigyan ulit ako ng opportunity ng Pinoy Pride!”
For Ruby, she had some observations with regards to her previous experiences as a round girl. “Na-notice ko na yung mga nanonood dito sa Davao, masayahin sila. Talagang tutok sila sa laban. Compared sa Manila, parang mas madami yung nanonood dito, mas excited sila sa boxing!”
Congratulations to Carin and Ruby, as well as to our Pinoy boxers who put on a great show at Pinoy Pride 29 last February 7 in Davao City!
