MANILA – A price tag has been placed on the much-anticipated showdown between boxing greats Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Through the course of a five-year negotiation, U.K. publication The Telegraph reported that the mega bout is estimated to reach a total of $250 million. This amount will likely hold the 60-40 purse split between the two fighters, wherein the bigger cut goes to Mayweather.
On Saturday, ABS-CBN Sports reported that Mayweather himself would be the one to make the bout announcement within the coming week. This has been concurred by The Telegraph, adding that the pound-for-pound boxing king, who is currently in New York City, is set to break the news during the NBA All-Star game on Sunday (Monday, Manila time) at the Madison Square Garden.
“Mayweather was in New York on Friday, buying hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, and there are indications that the unbeaten American boxer could even decide to announce the superfight officially at the NBA All-Star Game tip-off, which takes place on Sunday at Madison Square Garden,” the report reads.
Negotiations have supposedly reached its tail end, after Mayweather and Pacquiao met in the latter’s hotel room after their first face-to-face encounter during an NBA regular season game in Miami late last month.
According to representatives from both camps, the purse split, venue, gloves to be used, and drug-testing procedures have already been agreed upon.
