MANILA - It is official. The mega bout is on.
After five long years of a tug-o-war on paper about drug testing procedures, purse cuts, broadcast rights, and other logistical matters, everything has been made final. Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather himself made the big announcement through his shots account on Friday night (Saturday morning, Manila time).
The fight will be taking place on May 2nd, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
"What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done, and we did. We Will make history on May 2nd. Don't miss it. This is the signed contract from both fighters," Mayweather wrote in his post.
Since last week, Manny Pacquiao has been dropping slight hints about the fight's finalization, noting that he had already signed, and was just waiting for Mayweather to break the news. Anticipation came during the weekend, particularly during the NBA All-Star game, but Mayweather only dispelled them as rumors.
The said bout is also expected to be the most lucrative fight in history, as reports have claimed for it to amount close to $250 million.
The bout's weight limit will be at welterweight at 147-pounds, with no rematch clause set in place as of this posting. A 60-40 purse split has been agreed upon.
According to Sportsbook, Mayweather opened up as a -280 favorite, with Pacquiao being the +217 underdog.
