MGM Grand room rates skyrocket upon mega bout announcement

MANILA – The Mayweather vs. Pacquiao pre-fight festivities have begun. First up, the MGM Grand Garden Arena hotel accommodations.
Upon the mega bout’s finalization on Friday evening (Saturday morning, Manila time) through Floyd Mayweather’s announcement, accommodations for the fight’s hotel venue were reportedly sold out within 15 minutes.
According to USA Today’s Martin Rogers, room rates at the MGM Grand went up to about $615 a night for the May 1 and 2. The said weekend also marks Cinco de Mayo, a major Mexican holiday celebrated annually in the United States.
Paying patrons are expected to sell out the 16,800-seater arena, for what is deemed as the biggest fight in boxing history today. On the pay-per-view coverage, reports have also circulated that rates may soar to up to $99.95, from its usual $60 on average.
