MANILA - Donnie "Ahas" Nietes is looking sharp and ready to go as he prepares for his sixth title defense this Saturday.
The reigning WBO light flyweight champion (34-1-4, with 20 victories by knockout) will be facing Mexico's Gilberto "Parrito" Parra (19-2, with 17 victories by knockout) as the headliners for Pinoy Pride 30: D-Day at the Araneta Coliseum.
Nietes also officially holds the record for the longest-reigning Filipino world champion for seven years and three months, surpassing the record of late great Gabriel "Flash" Elorde.
During Tuesday afternoon's workout at the newly-built ALA Boxing Gym along Balete Drive in New Manila, "Ahas" showed he was already in battle mode four days before fight night. His punches were crisp, and his conditioning is top-notch, so far.
Also fighting on the card is five-division world champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire, who will be facing Brazil's William Prado, IBF Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight Champion Albert Pagara, who is slated to defend his title against Mexico's Rodolfo "Fofo" Hernandez, and AJ "Bazooka" Banal taking on Indonesia's Junior Bajawa.
Pinoy Pride 30: D-Day will take place on March 28, Saturday, 6 pm at the Araneta Coliseum and will be televised on March 29, Sunday, 9:45 am on ABS-CBN channel 2 and 9 pm on ABS-CBN Sports+Action channel 23.
Tickets are available at Ticketnet outlets.
