The Philippines has a very rich combat sports history, with numerous boxing greats coming out of the country. From Gabriel ‘Flash’ Elorde to Manny Pacquiao, the country has had its fair share of legends in the sport.
This makes what current WBO and Ring Magazine champ Donnie Nietes has done in his career even more impressive. As it stands, Nietes holding a title for over 7 years makes him the longest reigning champion in Philippine boxing history. On Saturday, he will be defending his belt once again, this time against Mexico’s Gilberto Parra.
Watch above as Nietes prepares for his headlining bout at Pinoy Pride 30 alongside his ALA Boxing teammates in undefeated top prospect Albert Pagara, and fan favorite AJ Banal.
The video was originally shot and edited by Nicole Sarmiento for BloodyElbow.com. Music is by Lions and Acrobats.
Boxing’s 2012 Fighter of the Year, Nonito Donaire will co-headline the contest on his comeback fight at 122 lbs.
