MANILA - Donnie Nietes is not looking to take a long break after his last assignment.
Fresh off his successful title defense on Saturday as the headliner of Pinoy Pride 30, "Ahas" (35-1-4, with 21 victories by knockout) is looking at July 4th for his next bout. His opponent and mandatory challenger: former WBO and IBF minimumweight champion Francisco Rodriguez Jr. (17-2-1, 11 victories by knockout).
The announcement was made by ALA Promotions President and CEO Michael Aldeguer.
Interestingly, Rodriguez defeated one of Nietes' stablemates, former WBO 105-pound champion Merlito Sabillo. Both men fought each other in March 2014 in Mexico, where Rodriguez scored a tenth round TKO victory.
"Chihuas" last saw action on January 31st in a rematch against another Filipino boxer in Jomar Fajardo, where he won by unanimous decision. Their first match was at Pinoy Pride 28 in November in Cebu City, where the match ended in a draw.
