Another Pinoy boxer eyeing world title
Milan Melindo will also be competing for a world title this May 30.

With all the hype surrounding arguably the biggest boxing event in recent history in Manny Pacquiao versus Floyd Mayweather, it’s hard to deny that all the attention will be on that huge superfight in May.

However, there will also be Pinoy slugger that will be representing the Philippines this May, as ALA Gym staple Milan “El Metodico” Melindo challenges Mexico’s Javier Mendoza for the IBF world light flyweight title (108 lbs). The 27-year old Melindo has 32 wins (12 knockouts) and one loss while the 24-year old Mendoza has a record of 23 wins (19 knockouts), two losses and one draw.

“The People’s Champ” Pacquiao serves as an inspiration to Filipinos worldwide, especially to fellow Pinoy boxers who hope to follow in his footsteps like Melindo, a native of Cagayan de Oro.

In fact, while Pacquiao trained in the first floor of the famed Wild Card gym in Los Angeles, Melindo was in the second floor, training with ALA coach Edito Villamor in preparation for his world title bout in Mexico.

Melindo will be coming into the fight as an underdog, but that does little to deter the spirit of the Pinoy warrior, who was unsuccessful in bringing a World Title back to the Philippines against Juan Francisco Estrada in Macau last 2013.

This time however, Melindo is determined to bring home some gold.

Melindo will be flying to Mexico a week before his world title bout this coming May 30.
