MANILA - Despite the long hours of travel from Los Angeles, California, Manny Pacquiao was in high spirits upon his arrival in Manila on Wednesday morning.
One of the reasons was the successful turnout of the “Isang Bayan Para Kay Pacman” campaign, launched by ABS-CBN. Through a virtual punch meter, Filipinos were called on to show their support for the eight-division world champion, who fought the biggest fight of his life and career against Floyd Mayweather on May 2nd.
The final punch tally reached a total of 126,852,898.
Pacquiao, for his part, was simply appreciative, both for his countrymen’s show of encouragement towards him and that the entire country was able to unite for this one historic event.
"Masaya na ako na nagkaisa ang sambayanang Pilipino para sa laban na ito."
Despite being unable to capture the win, many believe that Pacquiao has emerged victorious, in more ways than one.
“Floyd may have won the fight, but Manny won our hearts,” said Solar Entertainment President and CEO Wilson Tieng, during Pacquiao’s breakfast reception at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati.
