MANILA - In just seven days, the boxing world is yet again treated with a remarkable stoppage finish.
Just a week after “Canelo” Alvarez’s brutal third round stoppage of James Kirkland, knockout artist Gennady “GGG” Golovkin did his own rendition, this time with Willie “The Mongoose” Monroe. The devastating final blow came after three prior knockdowns throughout the course of the fight.
Two of those knockdowns came in the second round alone. But despite having tasted Golovkin’s trademark power shots, Monroe soldiered on and managed to trade and big shots of his own as the rounds progressed
Unfortunately for Monroe, though, his heart and willingness to continue was not enough. The Rochester, New York native went down once again, after being hit by a right-left hook, straight right combo.
The reigning WBA and IBO middleweight champion continues to keep an undefeated win-loss slate on 32-0, with 29 of those victories ending by knockout.
