"El Metodico" came up short in trying to bring another world title to the ALA Boxing stable
Pinoy boxer Milan “El Metodico” was unsuccessful in trying to bring gold back home to the Philippines after losing to Mexico’s Javier “Cobrito” Mendoza via technical decision in an IBF World Junior Flyweight title bout in Ensenada, Mexico.
The title bout, scheduled for 12 rounds, only went to six, as the fight had to be called off due to a cut on Mendoza caused by a head collision. By that point, Mendoza had done enough to win on the judges’ scorecards, 59-53, 60-52, and 60-52 for the technical decision win.
Melindo, who last fought for a world title back in 2003, had committed a lot of fouls during the match, which led to multiple head collisions between the two sluggers, and was deducted a point for one too many low-blows.
The loss snaps Melindo’s three-fight win streak, while Mendoza successfully defends his title for the second straight time, also pushing his winning streak to eleven straight bouts.
